2010 is bringing an exciting partnership between Spoutwood Farm & FamilyCook Productions. FamilyCook Productions, founded by Lynn Fredericks in New York City and now in partnership with Dr.Mehmet Oz’s HealthCorps, facilitates hands-on cooking activities with nutritious & delicious ingredients to promote healthy eating, family connections & well-balanced lifestyles.  Since the late 90s, FamilyCook programs have reached over 10,000 families across the US. Spoutwood is the first farm/CSA to sponsor FamilyCook programs!  Spoutwood will also be the regional hub for FamilyCook training programs. Participants from community youth organizations, scouts, other CSAs, schools, and YMCAs will be trained and certified to lead FamilyCook programs.  Our leadership will empower youth to become the driving force behind growing, cooking, eating, and celebrating sustainable food.  Let’s get kids and families cooking together and eating together!

January & February will focus on families with elementary age children through the Dinner Party program. The Dinner Party is a four-week program of preparation activities culminating in a celebratory meal at Spoutwood prepared & shared by the children and their families & friends. March & April will focus on the seven-week Teen Iron Chef program, culminating in a triumphant cook-off. Teen chefs learn cooking & leadership skills through preparing nutritious & multicultural recipes.   May will feature Teen Iron Chef cooking demonstrations & teen internships at the May Day Fairie Festival, April 30 and May 1-2. We are looking forward to garden-to-table cooking activities & demonstrations during the June- November Spoutwood Farm CSA season and hosting an Invitational Teen Iron Chef Cook Off at the 2010 Mother Earth Harvest Fair, October 3, 2010
